Electrical installations can be affected by many factors - age, wear and tear, corrosion, damage, excessive loading as well as environmental conditions such as damp and heat. Careful inspection and testing on a regular basis can identify and correct such problems before a major fault develops.

Periodic Inspection Reports are sometimes called Electrical Safety Reports, Electrical Safety Certificates or Electrical Inspection Reports. A Periodic Inspection Report is a report on an existing electrical installation to determine whether it is satisfactory or unsatisfactory for continued service. It should be carried out by a qualified and fully competent electrician.

As every electrical installation deteriorates with age and use, it is essential that they are maintained in order to ensure that the safety of others is not put at risk. Legislation requires that all electrical installations are kept in a safe working condition.
