There are two types of solar systems - solar thermal and photovoltaic (PV). Solar thermal systems collect the Sun's radiation to create hot water and store it for later use. Solar PV systems use energy from the Sun to create electricity to run appliances and lighting. Solar PV requires only daylight, not just direct sunlight, to generate electricity and so can still generate some power on a cloudy day.

Solar water heating systems provide quality hot water at a lower cost than heating with electricity or gas. Hot water is typically around 30% of your annual utility bill. Prices of PV systems vary depending on the size of the system installed, type of PV cell and the nature of the building upon which the PV panel is installed. For average domestic systems, costs can be around £5000-£8000 per kWp installed, with most domestic systems usually requiring between 1.5 and 3 kWp.

In general, Schuco solar thermal and solar photovoltaic systems are self-monitoring and operate automatically. Their performance output is expected to be for at least 20 years. All panels can be cleaned in the same way as standard building glaze.
